This is the first post from New Orleans. I’d love to say I will be more consistent with posts, but unfortunately my internet service is questionable. Right now I’m able to do stuff like normal, but last night I spent an hour trying to get to ANY page- yahoo or ESPN or CNN. So we’ll see. Anyway, the dorm room isn’t that bad, at least I can hang pictures on the walls. Matt Blair and some of his friends and I have been hanging out since I got here Friday. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous. Carmen and Sarah came and visited me Saturday morning, and that was great. Later that day, mom and dad came by, and then that night Matt and a bunch of us went out to eat and chill. We had a little service before that, and it was nice. It’s great to be in a group of believers and not feel like I have to be a leader. Still, I miss my people back home. I’ve been praying for them a lot. You know who you are. Anyway, that’s all I guess. I better post this while I still have a connection to post with. I’ll talk to ya’ll later, eh?
[Just Call Me Joe]
I'm a graduate of the University of Mobile and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. I left New Orleans in 2008, spent a year in Fort Worth, Texas, then moved back to Mobile.
I like people, but bad things happen all the time. I want to help people in the world's poorest and hungriest countries learn ways to become more sustainable. Agricultural, architectural, and environmental education and higher standards reduce the effects of inevitable disasters. If we really love people, this is something that needs to happen to save lives.
I currently serve the Mobile area as an AmeriCorps VISTA with the Alabama Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross. As always, the opinions I state on my blog are personal and do not represent the American Red Cross or any organization with which I am affiliated.
Feel free to check out my resumé.
