Last August,St. Paul’s School class of 1999 lost one of its own, as Prescott Hoffman was hit by a car in Lexington, Kentucky. He graduated from Centre College in 2003, and was working in Frankfort, Kentucky at the time. I was thinking about that today as I plan my trip to Kentucky in a few weeks. Something sparked me to google his name just to see what popped up, and I was happy to see this: Prescott Hoffman scholarship to be announced at memorial concert. I’m just glad to know he made something of his life, and in his death, something good can be done for others. I hate that he died, even if I can say we weren’t really close. But at least something good can be said.
[Just Call Me Joe]
I'm a graduate of the University of Mobile and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. I left New Orleans in 2008, spent a year in Fort Worth, Texas, then moved back to Mobile.
I like people, but bad things happen all the time. I want to help people in the world's poorest and hungriest countries learn ways to become more sustainable. Agricultural, architectural, and environmental education and higher standards reduce the effects of inevitable disasters. If we really love people, this is something that needs to happen to save lives.
I currently serve the Mobile area as an AmeriCorps VISTA with the Alabama Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross. As always, the opinions I state on my blog are personal and do not represent the American Red Cross or any organization with which I am affiliated.
