The Best Tex-Mex in Fort Worth…

El Fenix on Camp BowieWell, it might be, anyway.  I went with friends a couple weeks ago, then took my parents there last Sunday night.  Britt says it’s the best Mexican in the Metroplex, but he gave that award to about six different places, all along Camp Bowie Blvd in Fort Worth.  They do have some of the best chips I’ve ever had (and so far, just about everybody I know agrees).  The way I see it, if my parents who are both Texans consider it among the best Mexican food they’ve ever had, then it must be up there.  So here’s some free publicity, El Fenix on Camp Bowie and Ridgelea.  This is why I was outside your restaurant the other night with my camera: so I could shamelessly plug you to the twenty random souls (from other states) who might read this.

And for those of you who are in other states, check out their website and buy some chips or maybe a t-shirt.

Don’t make a final decision until you eat at Los Pastores in Arlington at 704 E. Pioneer Parkway. Try the Super Quesadillas, or the cheese enchiladas. Also, don’t forget to ask for fresh flour tortillas. Best around.

Art Rogers - Sooner or later you’ll have to hit Joe T. Garcia’s, Ft. Worth’s legitimate 5 Star Mexican food restaurant. There are two options on the menu: cheese enchiladas or fajitas. That’s it.

But good, as I recall.

Joe Kennedy - El Fenix is also conveniently located about two turns and several miles away from here, whereas Dorcas, you’ve got me going to Arlington… which just won’t happen much. But thanks for the tip.

Art, I’ll see about that.

El Fenix was just bought by a guy from Dallas, so I’m sure its quality will drop significantly over the next year. It always goes that way.

Dorcas Hawker - I pity the man who won’t drive a few miles for good food. Seriously, are you telling me you can’t bring yourself to drive from Benbrook to Arlington? What kind of food expert are you?

Just when I was thinking about hiring you to do my wedding photography if I ever get around to getting engaged, too. Well, I guess if you are against traveling to Arlington I’ll just have to find someone else. Sigh, Joe is already becoming a Fort Worth snob.

Oh, and as to the ants … do you need a legal mediator for your battle? Perhaps we could come to a diplomatic compromise.

Didn’t we tell you that Texas had outsourced the welcome wagon responsibilities to the insects? :)

Joe Kennedy - Arlington is pretty far. I had to drive out there the other day. I mean, Dorcas, I have a 4Runner. I’m not exactly fuel-friendly these days. It’s just so far… my friends and I were planning a trip to Dallas via the railway for this weekend, but they had to do some family thing out west.

And it’s not so much that I’m a Fort Worth snob… because I’m in Benbrook, and there’s not much to celebrate about Benbrook. It’s just that I naturally have always had a dislike of Dallas. It’s like, East Texas. I mean, ewww. East Texas might as well be Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, or Georgia. But Fort Worth is Central/North Texas… which is the last stop before absolutely nothing. There’s something nice about being on the edge of a great expanse of nothingness, which is why I can’t wait to move back to a coastline.

As for the ants… I’ve called in for reinforcements, which should arrive in no less than 5 days.
