[Just Call Me Joe]

I'm a graduate of the University of Mobile and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. I left New Orleans in 2008, spent a year in Fort Worth, Texas, then moved back to Mobile.

I like people, but bad things happen all the time. I want to help people in the world's poorest and hungriest countries learn ways to become more sustainable. Agricultural, architectural, and environmental education and higher standards reduce the effects of inevitable disasters. If we really love people, this is something that needs to happen to save lives.

I currently serve the Mobile area as an AmeriCorps VISTA with the Alabama Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross. As always, the opinions I state on my blog are personal and do not represent the American Red Cross or any organization with which I am affiliated.

A couple years ago while walking around the French Quarter, I found a courtyard behind this lock and chain. I grabbed a couple shots, and they turned out to be among my favorite.

The Hidden Courtyard One of the things I love about New Orleans is how many hidden alleys and courtyards are scattered around the French Quarter. For just a little while, I can feel like I’m lost in some old European cities, on an adventure of my own. And with the crime rate increasing, it’s definitely an adventure. It’s still worth it.
