The Reproducing Churches Network in Pensacola…

Today Justin Woulard and I went to Pensacola to meet with a couple church planters in the Reproducing Churches Network. In late January I drove over to New Orleans to a gathering of the RCN guys, including Jason Dukes and Billy Mitchell. That same day they were in New Orleans, Jason and Billy also spent time in Tallahassee, Florida with these guys. Anyway, Justin (right) and I met with James Ross (middle) and John Wise (left) at the Drowsy Poet Coffee Company near Pensacola Christian College. James and John are solid guys- James is the lead pastor of Mosaic Crestview and John is anticipating a move to the Birmingham area to help plant a church. We had a great time swapping stories and praying for one another. Praise God for encouragement from other missionaries.

[Project 365 Week 5]

Week 5 of Project 365 wasn’t that much more eventful than the last 4 weeks… unless, of course, you count the SAINTS WINNING THE SUPER BOWL! Which I do.

Here’s the rundown: Friday I took a shot of my backyard at night. Saturday I went to my friend Justin’s birthday party. Sunday, THE SAINTS WON! THE SAINTS WON! Monday it sunk in. Tuesday I looked up where all those “Indianapolis Colts Super Bowl Champions” t-shirts would end up (Africa and Haiti). Wednesday I thanked God again for THE SAINTS WIN! And on Thursday, I took a before-picture of the back porch in preparation of SNOWMAGEDDON! SNOWPOCALYPSE!

A couple nights before Christmas, my brother, his wife, and I went out to Bellingrath Gardens to take pictures of their Christmas lights. It was a busy, wet, and warm night, which made for interesting photos.

[Downtown Mobile Christmas]

I went downtown to LoDa one night a couple weeks ago to take pictures of Mobile’s Christmas decorations. It wasn’t really that spectacular- actually it was all very underwhelming. Above left: Looking Down Royal Street toward Government Boulevard. Above right: Cathedral Square Facing the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

As I strolled to the corner of Royal and Dauphin, I saw a photographer posing a police officer in front of the Van Antwerp Building. Victor Calhoun, a Press-Register photographer, was taking shots of the crumbling facade of one of Mobile’s oldest buildings. He filled me in on the story, so I decided to take some photos too. A little bit later, FOX 10 News arrived to report live. (Here’s the article.)

My brother built his own kayak trailer, and his wife painted it. Check out this paint job- it’s pretty spectacular. The sun hit the back at a bad angle, and I took the photos with my iPhone… so I’m sorry they don’t do it justice. Anyway, isn’t this great?

[The Dauphin Island Excursion]

A couple weeks ago my friends Britt and Kayla and I drove down to Dauphin Island to see the GIANT clam shells (that are as big as your hand) on the southwest shore. It should be understood that every time I mentioned these clam shells, they got bigger and bigger- to the point that Britt and I described them as at least a foot in diameter and easily large enough to eat small children playing in the water.

Never you mind the hype, and by all means ignore that I don’t have photos of the shells themselves. Consider it an addition to the mystery and mystique of this unnatural island occurrence. And in the meantime, while ignoring the lack of shell-based evidence, take a gander at the photos of this windsurfer catching the waves.

Perhaps, in the end, they will satisfy.

My friends Justin and Erin asked me to do a little photoshoot for them this week, and I was happy to oblige. I took them to my old high school because I knew it had some character- especially the old chapel for St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Reagan was born in the spring of 2008, and they are expecting a son in October.
